Saturday Semi-Finals:

(W) Bruce Litton (Lucas Oil Dragster)

The paitings were set by points, so points leader Bobby Lagana got the bye this round and second-place Litton drew Paton.

Litton had the early lead on a holeshot, but the two cars were making similar runs until about half track, then Paton's car started shedding body panels and he lifted around 1,000 feet, his car now mostly just frame rails. Litton's header flames went out before the stripe, running just 4 mph faster than he was at half track, but he was quick enough to secure one of the two spots in the championship round.

11:39 p.m. Another strong burnout for Lagana, hoping to notch another win and extend his lead in the points. But Litton is no pushove and he was first off the line, but it was close, dead-even at half track. But Litton had the better car on the top end of the track and Lagana's header flames went out first, while Litton appeared to drive it out the back door.

This is Litton's first-ever Ironman at Grand Bend, one of the few IHRA tracks where he's never won before.

The winner here needs to beat Lagana's 6.836 to get into the championship stanza - that will probably happen.

Massey left first, but his car spun the tires on the launch and Litton was never headed after that. He will have lane choice against Paton in the Championship Round later this afternoon.

3:26 p.m. For the day two championship, with two solid runs in the Consolation Round, everyone was looking for possible record numbers, but that's not what happened. Litton left first and led all the way past 1,000 feet, only to see Paton slip past in the lights to take the win away from him.
